Under the national action „Month of Roma Women`s Activism“ the round table „Position of Roma women in AP Vojvodina – challenges and perspectives“ happened organized by the Vojvodina Provincial Ombudsman. Under the framework of the event, president of the Association of Roma Novi Becej, Danica Jovanovic had spoken on about the „Challenges in accomplishing rights of Roma women: Violence and early marriages in AP Vojvodina“ during which she had pointed to existence and widespread problem of early, arranged, child marriages among Roma communities in Vojvodina.
On the round table, besides representatives of the civil society, Roma female activists participated also representatives of the independent bodies- provincial Ombudsman and representative of the Equality Commissioner of the RS and representatives of the Provincial Government. During presentation, Danica Jovanovic, president of the Association of Roma Novi Becej and the Coordinator of the Roma Women’s Network of Banat pointed to the major concern related to violation of rights of girl-child and on the problem of early, arranged marriages that disables Roma women to use their rights. With her presentation she stated that access to justice must be enabled to Roma women but also that they must be enabled to communicate with institutions with their native language.
